Irish College of General Practitioners - Health in Practice Programme
The ICGP set up the Health in Practice Programme (HiPP) in March 2000 which provides Irish GPs and their families with access to confidential healthcare, personal health related information and a comprehensive educational programme for GPs, GPs in training and other postgraduate and undergraduate medical personnel.

HiPP promotes good physical, psychological and occupational health for General Practitioners (GPs). Doctors may experience any of the health conditions patients get. Attending another doctor for health care can be a major challenge for any doctor. HiPP also acknowledge that providing healthcare to medically qualified patients has its challenges!

Doctors use the ICGP Health in Practice Programme if they have concerns about personal health symptoms, for illness prevention and screening, and for management of chronic illness. Information may be sought and provided on a range of topics such as stress management, occupational hazards, health & safety, sickness absence, return to work after illness and how to deal with concerns for a colleague in difficulty.

Confidential Healthcare and advice is provided by four groups of health professionals who have applied for and are trained to provide healthcare to doctors: GPs, Psychiatrists, Occupational Physicians and Psychologists / Psychotherapists. These groups also receive ongoing formal and informal peer support for their roles.

Directories for the ICGP HiP Healthcare Groups are directly available to members from www.icgp.ie/hip or by telephoning HiPP Administrator or HiPP Director at ICGP.
